The most expensive Olympics in history

The most expensive Olympics in history

The cost of the Sochi Winter Olympics were over 50 billion US dollars, which is five times more than original estimates.
It has been the most expensive Olympics, and what is shocking is that the cost of it was bigger than the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics, which was around 40 billion dollars.

A lot of people were wondering why it was so expensive, and the problem is that the city of Sochi didn't have most of needed infrastructure, and 85 percent of the infrastructure had to be built from the scratch.

Sponsors have spent almost 25 billion dollars in the beginning, and later it was increased to almost 33 billion dollars.
Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Kozak, who is the head of the Olympic preparatory commission has offered tax breaks for every company that has been involved in the Olympic construction.
Much of this money was really necessary because they wanted to turn a tropical beach holiday destination into a place that is good enough for winter sports.

As we mentioned above all those venues had to be built from the scratch, and they've also restored the infrastructure.
The negative thing about all those renovations is the big impact on the environment. Nature had to give way to the Winter Olympics and also the inhabitants of a small village.

When it comes to security, we must say it was on its highest level. Russia has deployed around 100,000 police officers and soldiers for the duration of the Olympic Games.
